No animal has a more
distinctive coat than the zebra. Each animal's stripes are as unique as fingerprints;
no two are exactly alike although each of the three species has its own general
pattern. Zebras are social animals that spend time in herds. They graze
together, primarily on grass, and even groom one another. Zebras must be
constantly wary of lions and hyenas. A herd has many eyes alert to danger. If
an animal is attacked, its family will come to its defense, circling the
wounded zebra and attempting to drive off predators. Zebras are mammals that
have the diet of a herbivore. The average life span of a zebra in the wild is
about 25 years. When zebras become full grown they grow to be about 3 to 5 feet
tall and about 450 to 1000lbs.
The reason I chose to write
about a zebra is because they are like the most unique animal there is because
their coat color. Scientist still has never figured out exactly why their coat
is like this. There is theories that the coat is used to for camouflage
because, other animals cannot tell how many there is if they are running in a
herd. Another theory is that zebras use the stripes to help them to recognize
each other. Well Zebras in my opinion are the most unique out of the wild
animals and I think they are really cool animals other than they are the prey
for a lot of the animals out there.
